Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates Episode 1

Several points that this episode covers:

  • Bill Gates’ plans for sanitation
  • Bill Gates’ relationships with his mom, and sisters

What stood out to me during the episode:

Figure 1 – Timestamp 16:43 Taken from Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates Episode 1

Figure 1 shows a “modern sanitation system”. After waste gets flushed down the toilet, they arrive at treatment center, and go through the systems shown in Figure 1.

The worst moment in his life was when his mom died.

And, presumably in this photo he was thinking about the story of how he had been pulled over by the police after driving home from what I assume was his mother’s funeral while telling said story.

He mentioned in this episode, as well as, in episode two about how his mom greatly impacted how he approached his relationships, his work, and his outlook on life.

Inside Bill’s Brain: Decoding Bill Gates Episode 2

“That’s not inspiring though,” says the interviewer.

Bill Gates responds, “Well, that’s too bad. It’s not my goal to be inspiring.”

“If you’re not doing that [eradicating Polio in third world countries] then why are you doing that for?”

“Optimization.”

Several points that this episode covers:

  • Bill Gates’ workaholism
  • The multiple business-friendships Bill Gates has
  • Bill Gates Foundation on its goal to eradicate polio

What stood out to me during the episode:

Paul Allen died at the age of sixty-five due to cancer. Bill Gates and Paul Allen had been having a tumultuous friendship ever since the two had started Microsoft because along the way Paul Allen didn’t want to work all through the day, and into the night as often. Gates who has had a incomparable work ethic from his classmates, colleagues, and workers would not allow Allen to “take breaks” at nights stating that he was “not serious about the business” as he was.
During the end of Allen’s life, Gates decides to connect with him again. As the voiceover has stated (whether or not it was in Gates words or the narrator’s), “love lasts, while anger fades”. In the end, Gates did not come to Allen’s funeral.

While this episode shows that hard work is essential to a successful company, it’s also important to find out who your best friend or best business partner would be.

Code Your Own Website by Basher, and TheCoderSchool

Summary: TheCoderSchool, a Silicon Valley based after-school drop-off program for kids learning to code, teams up with Basher to create personifications of the Internet. More specifically, personifications of the tools used behind the scenes of the Internet. This book will show you how to make a website through step-by-step processes that build on each other’s concepts in an entertaining way that can be appealing to young adults and adults alike.

Comments: The proposed five pre-built code files were not accessible for me as those files seemed to be important the following project on later pages. I tried coding without the files. The project was a flop because PHP files cannot be opened in an .html file considering they’re in a different server, and the .htaccess file is not ideal to use in professional settings as said on stackoverflow because the information cannot be transferred from device to device.

My opinion: Aside from the missing information for the project, I thought the book was interesting and informative. I would recommend this book.
